Before Kathleen found Grandma’s House of Hope, her life felt like a constant uphill battle. She had spent months at a transitional recovery center, working tirelessly to regain stability, yet every step forward seemed to be met with new challenges. Finding safe, reliable housing on her own felt like an impossible dream.

Then the pandemic hit, making her journey even more daunting. Resources were scarce, systems were confusing, and Kathleen often felt alone in her struggle to survive. Facing housing barriers, health challenges, and the persistent fear of having nowhere to turn, she felt her hope slipping—until she was referred to Grandma’s House of Hope. That referral, she says, “changed everything.”

From the moment Kathleen stepped into one of our women’s homes, she discovered something she hadn’t felt in years: safety, consistency, and people who truly cared. Over the next 17 months, she poured her heart into rebuilding her life. She followed every rule, committed fully to her volunteer work, and embraced the support around her, step by step.

What touched Kathleen most wasn’t just the roof over her head—it was the unwavering support she received. The confusing, discouraging world of housing systems suddenly became navigable because she wasn’t alone. With the help of Grandma’s House of Hope’s housing navigation team, Kathleen secured a safe apartment of her own. She was deeply moved when Grandma's House of Hope helped furnish it with essentials like a refrigerator, pots, and pans—small things that carried immense relief and hope.

“I couldn’t have done it without Grandma’s House of Hope,” Kathleen said, her voice full of gratitude. “They helped me find a place to live when I had nowhere else to turn.”

Beyond the physical support, Grandma’s House of Hope gave Kathleen something even more precious: the chance to save, plan, and dream again. After years of living in survival mode, she finally felt the freedom to envision a future she could build for herself.

Today, Kathleen is thriving in her own home, stable and hopeful, a testament to the power of compassion paired with opportunity. Her story reminds us that with care, support, and a safe place to heal, it’s possible to rise from even the darkest circumstances.

At Grandma’s House of Hope, we are honored to walk alongside brave individuals like Kathleen, providing the shelter, support, and dignity they need to rebuild their lives—and their hope.
