Home Has No Age Limit

Our name has always promised a place where you're welcomed, fed, and known.  For about one in four of the people we serve, that promise lands close to home: they're grandmothers and grandfathers themselves.

Seniors make up roughly 25% of participants at Grandma's House of Hope.  Many worked for decades as mechanics, caregivers, office managers, cooks etc. Many raised families and cared for aging parents of their own.  Then a rent increase, a hospital stay, or the loss of a spouse took away the only stability they'd known.  Some find themselves without a home for the first time in their lives, at 65, 70, or older.

It happens faster than most people imagine.  A fixed income that once covered the rent stops stretching.  A partner who managed the bills passes away.  Adult children live far away, or are struggling themselves.  One missed payment becomes two, and suddenly a person who has always taken care of others has nowhere to go.

Why It's Harder Later in Life

For older adults, the streets are especially unforgiving.  Health needs go unmet.  Medications go missing.  Getting to meals, appointments, or shelter becomes harder with every step.  Paperwork piles up, and the systems meant to help can feel impossible to navigate alone.

And isolation, often the quiet beginning of the slide, deepens by the day.  Many of our seniors tell us the hardest part wasn't losing their home. It was feeling invisible.

A Place to Land

That's where we come in.  Through Grandma’s House of Hope Rescued & Restored Housing Program, seniors find a safe, stable place to live in a real neighborhood home, alongside benefits navigation, medical coordination, connection to senior services, etc.  Our team helps untangle the paperwork, keep appointments on track, and rebuild the routines that make a day feel steady again.

Our trauma-informed approach meets each person where they are.  Some arrive exhausted and need rest before anything else.  Some are ready to plan their next chapter right away.  Either way, we move at their pace, with patience and dignity.

Relationship Changes Everything

Housing is only the beginning.  What changes lives is relationship.

More than half of our staff have lived experience.  They know that being seen matters as much as being sheltered, and they bring that understanding to every conversation.  Our case managers and navigators don't just connect seniors to services.  They show up, follow through, and stay.

Inside our homes, seniors share meals, stories, and wisdom with housemates of every age.  A younger participant learns to cook a family recipe.  Someone newly sober finds a patient listener at the kitchen table.  Many of our seniors become the steady presence others lean on, and in giving that support, they rediscover their own sense of purpose.

Family for Life

The connection doesn't end at graduation.  Whether a senior moves into permanent housing, reunites with family, or settles into a new community, they don't walk that road alone.  Through AfterCare, graduates receive two years of structured support as they settle in.  Through Grandma's Family Tree, our alumni association, they stay part of this family for life, with people who will still call, still check in, and still celebrate the milestones.

Why It Matters

Our elders built the communities we live in.  They deserve to spend these years safe, supported, and surrounded by people who care.  No one should have to start over alone, and at Grandma's House of Hope, no one does.

Help us give our elders the home they deserve. Your gift provides a safe bed, a warm meal, and a family that stays.
